O Tratado de Lisboa acabou. A vitória do NÃO na Irlanda mandou para o caixote do lixo da história um projecto de Tratado que era uma autêntica burla política, por tentar ressuscitar a dita constituição europeia que os povos da França e da Holanda já tinham rejeitado.
A vitória do Não reveste-se de uma enorme importância e alcance político.
Este resultado constitui uma significativa derrota imposta pelo povo irlandês aos projectos de aprofundamento do neoliberalismo, do federalismo e do militarismo que os líderes das potências europeias e dos grupos económicos e financeiros teimam em prosseguir.
Um resultado tão mais significativo quanto a intensa campanha dos principais líderes da União Europeia, que numa linha de ingerência, pressões e chantagens sobre o povo irlandês, tudo fizeram para condicionar o resultado do referendo.
Um resultado que põe em evidência, de forma clara, as razões do receio que levaram os principais responsáveis pela elaboração do Tratado a impedir na generalidade dos países a realização de referendos nacionais sobre o projecto do novo Tratado Europeu.
Os que agora cinicamente invocam que a “Europa”não pode ficar refém de três milhões de irlandeses, iludem deliberadamente o facto de terem impedido que muitos milhões de outros europeus pudessem ter tido voz para se opor a este Tratado e aos seus objectivos. Mas a vitória do Não constitui também uma significativa derrota dos que, como PS e PSD, no nosso país tudo fizeram, ao contrário do que haviam prometido, para retirar aos portugueses o direito de se pronunciarem. O resultado do referendo põe assim em evidência as verdadeiras razões que levaram PS e PSD a evitar o debate sobre o real conteúdo e objectivos do Tratado e a refugiarem-se na sua ratificação parlamentar. A vitória do Não é, assim, uma derrota do Governo do PS/Sócrates e de todos quantos insistiram em atrelar o nosso país a um Tratado, que ao sabor dos interesses das grandes potências e do capital transnacional, prejudicava o país e a sua soberania.
O PCP saúda com particular alegria um resultado que contribui para travar uma caminhada muito perigosa das grandes potências europeias, com destaque para a Alemanha e a França que, através deste projecto de Tratado, tentavam lançar as bases de um super-Estado, para reforçar os mecanismos de intervenção imperialista em estreita colaboração com a NATO.
O PCP chama desde já a atenção para as manobras dos que, à semelhança do que sucedeu com a rejeição popular na França e na Holanda, pretendem manter a ratificação de um Tratado que está juridicamente morto, procurando agora remeter para a Irlanda uma leitura política que é obrigatoriamente de dimensão europeia. O que este resultado impõe é a imediata suspensão dos processos de ratificação em curso.
Saudamos o povo da Irlanda que soube resistir à forte pressão, por ser o único referendo nesta fase de ratificação e o importante contributo dado com a sua participação à luta em defesa dos direitos dos trabalhadores, para travar as decisões graves do Tribunal de Justiça Europeu contra os direitos à negociação colectiva, à greve e à igualdade de salários.
Com esta vitória criaram-se melhores condições para travar a ofensiva contra os direitos sociais e laborais, para conseguir novas vitórias na luta contra propostas muito graves que estão em debate, com destaque para a directiva do retorno e da vergonha sobre os imigrantes, a directiva de prolongamento do tempo de trabalho até às 65 horas semanais, as directivas sobre liberalizações de serviços públicos e outros sectores fundamentais ao desenvolvimento.
O PCP reafirma o seu empenhamento na luta por uma outra Europa empenhada na solidariedade, na justiça social, na cooperação entre os povos e países, no respeito pelo princípio de Estados soberanos e iguais em direitos, no desenvolvimento e progresso social, na paz.

The Lisbon treaty is dead. The NO victory in Ireland has thrown into the dust bin of history a Treaty project that was truly a political fraud, as it tried to resuscitate the so-called European constitution which had been rejected by the people of France and the Netherlands.
The NO victory holds great importance and political meaning.
This result represents a significant defeat imposed by the Irish people of the projects to increase neoliberalism, federalism and militarism, which the leaders of the European powers and the economic and financial groups persist on continuing.
A result which is also significant because of the intense campaign by the main European Union leaders, who, following a line of interference, pressures and blackmail on the Irish people, tried in all manners to condition the result of the referendum.
A result which stresses, in a clear way, the reasons of the fear that led those mainly responsible for drawing the Treaty to prevent in most countries the national referendums on the project of the new European Treaty.
Those who now cynically claim that "Europe" cannot remain hostage to three million Irish, deliberately ignore the fact that they prevented millions of other Europeans from voicing their opposition to this Treaty and its aims. But the NO victory also constitutes a significant defeat of those who, like the PS and PSD in our country, tried everything, contrary to what they had promised, to take from the Portuguese the right to have a say. The result of the referendum shows the real reasons that led the PS and the PSD to avoid a debate on the real content and aims of the Treaty and to take refuge in a parliamentary ratification. The NO victory is thus, a defeat of the PS/Socrates government and all those who insisted in towing our country to a Treaty, which at the whim of the great powers and transnational capital, harmed the country.
The PCP salutes with special joy a result which contributes to stop a very dangerous march by the great European powers, especially Germany and France, who, with this project, tried to launch the foundations of a super-State, to strengthen the mechanisms of imperialist intervention in close cooperation with NATO.
The PCP draws attention to the manoeuvres that, similar to those that took place after the popular rejection in France and the Netherlands, aim to ratify a Treaty which is legally dead, trying to confine to Ireland a political meaning that has in fact a European dimension. The result forces an immediate suspension of the ongoing ratification processes.
We salute the people of Ireland who managed to resist the strong pressure, being the sole referendum in this stage of ratification, and the important contribution their participation gave to the struggle in defence of the rights of the workers, to put a stop to the serious decisions by the European Court of Justice against the rights of collective bargaining, strike and wage equality.
With this victory better conditions have been created to put an end to the offensive against social and labour rights, to achieve new victories in the struggle against very serious proposals presently under debate, specially the directive of return and of shame on the immigrants, the directive to extend the work week to 65 hours, the directives on the liberalization of public services and other areas fundamental to development.
The PCP reaffirms its commitment to the struggle for a different Europe, engaged in solidarity, in social justice, in cooperation among the peoples, respecting the principle of sovereign States and equal in rights, in social development and progress and in peace.
